Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II Vilcas Huaman is in urgent need of upgrades
This home is about 117 km (73mi) from Ayacucho. It is in a very remote area. The drive to get there is about 4 hours and most of it on dirt roads. It is 3470 m above see level (11384 ft).
The home is in dire need of upgrades. We are focusing on 6 projects that will improve the quality of life of the children in the home.
-Fix bathrooms. Upgrade with new showers, toilets and sinks, instal a water heater.In mid winter, children have very little hot water.US$5,000
-Fix a broken roof, it leaks in the boys bedroom.-replace broken windows in children's bedrooms, bath rooms ( this is crucial since winter in this areas are very cold).US$2,000
-Procure 2 washing machines and new plumbing. Hand wash for 19 children takes time away from the kids. US$2,000
-Fix exposed electric wires, plugs and light switches in kids bedrooms and study/homework area
-Replace broken door handles all throughout the home
-New closets in the kids bedrooms are needed. This is the only space each child gets for storage
Improving children's health
The sun exposure at this altitude is severe. Children are in constant need of sunblock and moisturizer for there skin.
-We are woking on getting a full year supply
Education
-The nuns that take care of the children are from India and need the help of a tutor for homework in the afternoon.
-2 computers for the children to study and do homework
